Anise Global Gastrobar: A Global Sensation!

This month, for our monthly office sustainable restaurant luncheon, we decided to go to Anise Global Gastrobar in Downtown Tampa. It’s located in a great spot right off Ashley Drive and the area around it is beautiful.

When we walked in, we were greeted by a very friendly and chipper hostess, and sat us right away.  She struck up friendly conversation and made sure we were comfortable. The atmosphere was beautiful. The aesthetics were great, it was quiet and modest and a great place to just hang out and relax.

Almost immediately after, our waiter, Kyle came to our table. Talk about speedy service! This is a great thing, especially if you are a business or a businessperson going out for lunch and you only have a certain amount of time to eat.

After Kyle came over, he explained to us a little bit about the background of Anise. Apparently, it was actually a food truck before it became a restaurant! Who knew that happened? To be honest, I didn’t! Anyway, he then explained that the meals were more tapas style and that the style was based around Korean meals.

One of the coolest things he explained was that their lettuce is grown in house. Oh, and guess what, you can see as soon as you walk in the door! They buy the buds as babies and then nurture them in house until they grow fully. That’s when they serve them, of course! Jeanne wanted one of her own, but sadly you can only get it for commercial restaurant type businesses.

Okay, now we get to the good stuff, the food. Kyle was great in helping us decide what to get and in what order. Since it was tapas style, he suggested we get many different things and split it between the four of us. So, first, we started with the baked goat cheese. Let me tell you guys, it was absolutely fantastic! Now, I’m not usually a fan of goal cheese, but however this was prepared was mouth watering!

Next, we got the sticky buns. We tried all five of them, or I should say the table did. There was Beer Battered Shrimp, Braised Pork Belly, Red Curries Crispy Chicken, Fried Zucchini and Chinese BBQ Pork. I tried the shrimp and fried zucchini, because I’m not a fan of pork. But the two I did try were very good!

Last we had the grilled shrimp tacos. If you are going there, this is a must try! Kyle took it upon himself to give us one order of the tacos with lettuce wraps and one order with the taco shells. Boy, am I glad he did! I actually very much enjoyed the flavor of the tacos with the lettuce wrap as opposed to the taco shell, but both were very much enjoyable!

At that point, we were pretty full, so we sadly didn’t try any of the dessert.

To wrap it up, this place is a must try. I would definitely go back. Their drink menu looks amazing, so I definitely want to go try it for dinner.  All of us loved our meals and found everything very tasty and very tastefully done. The service was impeccable and the fact that they are a sustainable business makes it even better!
