How does Social Media affect Divorce and Custody Proceedings?

Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, My Space and other social media are fertile grounds for opposing parties to obtain compromising, embarrassing and sometimes winning evidence against you in litigation.  Although you may believe those party photos are “fun”, an angry spouse, ex spouse or significant other may use them against you to show that you are irresponsible, untrustworthy, and unstable.  Don’t post it unless you are comfortable with having it shown to the judge.   This goes for emails and text messages also.  If you don’t want the judge to read it, don’t say it.   Take a deep breath and wait 15 minutes before pushing that “send” button.    Don’t be deluded that marking your site “private” will keep someone out.  They may be a friend of a friend and be able to access your account.
